Week 6 – Speed Bumps
April 14, 2023
Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!
In the past week, illness and life have gotten in the way of my research, but I have made progress on my research! After finishing all of the interviews and fixing up their transcriptions, I am excited to experiment with Atlas.ai, my chosen site for interview analysis and interpretation. This is something that I would have never thought I would be using, and because of this project, I am leaving my comfort zone to not only conduct the interviews but analyze them as well. This is also something that is new to my advisors as well, so it is a learning process for everyone!
With Atlas.ai, I hope to find commonalities in my interviewees’ responses that I may not be able to notice on my own. Each of my interviewees was so different from each other despite being South Asian, or of Indian origin. Being able to see the ways that each of them, although they were mostly very unconnected, has been especially interesting and amazing, reminding me of the importance of my research. Through interviews to learn about the South Asian American diaspora while also using “haunting” to figure out the historic factors that have exacerbated the divide in South Asia, I hope to find more nuanced ways to provide care for youth. From fostering more inclusion and acceptance in the community to talking to service providers on ways to improve trainings for professionals that directly serve youth, this work would raise awareness for issues in this niche youth community.
In the next week, I will be experimenting with Atlas.ai and will be finally starting some of my movie analysis.
Thank you so much for reading, and see you next week!
