College Acceptances

BASIS Independent Silicon Valley’s Class of 2023 College Acceptances

May 9, 2023 by msnyder

The Class of 2023 at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley is an exceptional group of students with a diverse range of talents and interests. These students have consistently demonstrated a passion for learning and a strong work ethic, both inside and outside the classroom. By completing our rigorous curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, our students have developed a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that will serve them well as they pursue their post-secondary goals.

When speaking to our Head of School Ms. Kolb, she reflected on this year’s senior class by saying, “We know how hard our students work throughout their time here at BISV. This year’s college acceptances are just another example of their mastery of our curriculum, their readiness to move on to the next stage of life, and the reward of all their hard work.”

College acceptances are an important milestone for our students and their families, and our college counselors play a critical role in the process. While getting into a top-ranked college is often seen as the ultimate goal, our college counselors focus on helping students find a college that is the best fit for their academic, personal, and professional goals. This involves working closely with students to understand their interests, strengths, and preferences, as well as their financial and geographical constraints. By prioritizing student fit, our college counselors help our graduating Bobcats find a college where they can thrive academically, personally, and socially, setting them up for success in their college years and beyond.

Ms. Batrachenko, one of our college counselors, recently expressed her admiration for the Class of 2023. According to her, this year’s graduating class brought a “mosaic of personalities and self-expression styles” to the college application process, which made it an exciting journey to be a part of. Despite any challenges our students faced, they approached the application process with dedication and commitment, and as a result, achieved impressive college acceptances.

We are confident that the Class of 2023 will continue to excel in their academic and personal pursuits, and wish them the very best as they embark on this exciting journey. Below is the full list of College Acceptances for this year’s graduating class. Congratulations, Bobcats!

BASIS Independent Silicon Valley is a TK – Grade 12 private school, providing students with an internationally benchmarked liberal arts and sciences curriculum, with advanced STEM offerings. Considering joining the Bobcat community?

BASIS Independent Brooklyn’s Class of 2023 College Acceptances

April 21, 2023 by msnyder

Today we honor the BASIS Independent Brooklyn Class of 2023 and celebrate news of their college acceptances to date. Our graduating class truly helped build our school culture and community, since many graduating students started with us in primary and middle school. Our graduating seniors have focused on looking ahead to programs that will build on their interests nurtured in classes and activities outside of school through the years.

“Members of our Class of 2023 have grown both individually and as a cohort through the years on our campus,” commented Head of School Josh Harmon. “Having taught many of them in sixth grade, I can say firsthand that it did not happen easily or overnight and took a lot of grit and resilience! We have been honored to be a part of each senior’s high school story. We wish them luck with their college decisions and the next chapter in their growth as both students and young adults.”

“Our seniors have wholeheartedly embraced the task of seeking their individualized college fit, which is what I counsel every student towards at BASIS Independent Brooklyn,” shared College Counselor Matt Brauch. “As our Class of 2023 grew through the college search process, students focused on researching programs that aligned with their long-term goals. It was impressive to see their focus on college programs that supported interests cultivated during the last four years through activities pursued both inside and outside of the classroom.”

We are incredibly proud of our Class of 2023. Some highlights:

  • 40% of students were offered spots at colleges in the top 25-ranked national and international institutions.
    • Amherst College, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Imperial College London, New York University, Northwestern University, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, University of Toronto, University of Virginia, Williams College.
    • Four out of 22 of our students applying to colleges this year received offers of admission from Cornell University.
  • Students continue to look beyond the U.S. and consider offers of admission from international institutions, including the University of Toronto, Imperial College London, King’s College London, McGill University, and the University of Manchester.

We are proud to share the university and college acceptances received by our 22 students who applied to colleges this year – 20 seniors; one Class of ’22 alum, who applied to schools during a gap year; and one junior who decided to apply to colleges a year early.

Please join us in congratulating our BEARS!

BASIS Independent McLean’s Class of 2023 College Acceptances

April 21, 2023 by ekugler

Congratulations to the Class of 2023! Your success in the college application process is impressive and commendable! The list below shows the adventurous and inspiring nature of this year’s class. While additional acceptances are still possible from waitlists, all seniors have secured a spot at an amazing institution of higher education for the next four years.

Our seniors stayed focused, trusted the process, and applied to a variety of colleges that met their needs and interests. In the end, our 30 graduates were accepted to over 85 colleges and universities across the globe.

Of the 60% of seniors who have made their final college decision, 25% have decided to stay in Virginia and 25% will travel out of the country for their university. Graduates will focus their studies in a variety of majors: Biochemistry, Business, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, and Statistics.

Statistically, this year’s senior class is particularly impressive with their application results.

  • 100% of students who applied Early Action (EA) were accepted early.
  • Over 60% of Early Decision (ED) applicants were accepted to their first-choice college.
  • In 2023, 20% of Virginia applicants were accepted to UVA. At BASIS Independent McLean, 0ver 60% of our applicants were accepted.

Looking to the rankings, according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report college ranking data,

  • 100% of our seniors were accepted to a Top 50 National and/or Global University
  • 93% of our seniors were accepted to a Top 50 National University
  • 62% of our seniors were accepted to a Top 25 National University
  • 23% of our seniors were accepted to a Top 10 National University

The seniors began their college application process during their College Counseling Boot Camp last May, and the acceptance list below marks the culmination of 12 months of hard work and application dedication. It has been quite a year, and I am excited for what the future brings for the Class of 2023.
