Ms. Craig
English
Middle School, High School
Ms. Craig has never forgotten the impact of the teachers that sparked her love of writing, literature and the way in which history tells the story of the collective human narrative. Inspirational teaching and her own intellectual curiosity motivated her to enter the field of education. After earning her BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz, she studied Nutrition Education and then returned to UNM to pursue her secondary teaching license in Social Studies and ELA.
Ms. Craig believes that dynamic and student-centered instruction helps to foster the true potential of all students. Further, studying the Humanities allows students to develop critical thinking skills essential for navigating our rapidly changing world. By cultivating both analytical and creative writing, students learn to think through and communicate their ideas effectively. Additionally, literature reveals how certain themes occur within stories across time periods. Literature can help to illuminate how, in the words of Mark Twain, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why."
Being aware of the complex opportunities in our globalized world, Ms. Craig has loved teaching not only in the US, but also internationally in Cameroon, India and China. She has taught multiple curricula including the Advanced Placement (AP) and the International Baccalaureate (IBDP). Having worked with students from multiple grades, including those at colleges and universities, she understands how crucial it is to build pivotal academic skills at every progressive grade level. She is excited to be a founding Humanities teacher at BASIS Independent Dublin, where she can teach within a learning environment dedicated to excellence. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Craig enjoys reading, writing, visiting museums, finding new bookstores, traveling to new countries on her bucket list and visiting the ocean.
