As an educator, Ms. Harper’s goal is to create a space where students feel both empowered and challenged in their artistic journeys. “I also aim for students to explore the diverse world of art safely and respectfully. I hope for students to gain the skills of collaboration, communication, and critical thinking both on and off the stage.”

She was drawn to BASIS Independent Schools because of the emphasis on global citizenship and the deep value placed on student-teacher relationships. “BASIS Independent wants our students to become citizens of the world and engage in opportunities outside of their own worldview. BASIS Independent also values the relationship between a student and teacher and realizes how crucial it is for learning to begin.”

In her classroom, Ms. Harper centers student voices. “Students learn best in a classroom where they feel represented. My classroom is a student-centered environment, where students weigh in on how and what we collaborate on. Students hold responsibility not only in learning but in how the whole of the class learns.”

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Harper enjoys reading, watching films, gaming with friends, and staying active in the Seattle theatre scene through directing and acting. A passionate traveler, she has visited over 23 countries and hopes to explore Japan, India, and Ireland next.
