Math
Primary Program, Middle School
Mr. Sorscher earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stanford University and a Doctorate in Neuroscience and Behavior from the University of Washington in Seattle. He was drawn to BASIS Independent Bothell because of its challenging and supportive academic culture and the opportunity to be part of a community that encourages students to challenge themselves while providing the support they need to succeed.
As a Teaching Fellow, Mr. Sorscher believes teaching is about building genuine personal connections with students, believing in their abilities, and cultivating a foundation of mutual trust and respect. He strives to create a classroom where patience, enthusiasm, authentic experiences, and joy are central to the learning process. While learning the right answer is important, he believes it is even more meaningful when students form joyful memories of applying their knowledge in relevant and memorable contexts.
Mr. Sorscher believes students learn best when they are encouraged to explore, be creative, and engage in productive struggle. He enjoys creating opportunities for students to take ownership of their learning and is especially excited to develop projects that invite students to think creatively and see where their ideas can take them.
Outside of the classroom, Mr. Sorscher enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and staying active. His hobbies include Brazilian jiu-jitsu, hiking, and playing the violin. From 2022 to 2024, he and his wife served as Peace Corps volunteers in Ecuador.
