Mandarin
Primary Program
Ms. Yang earned her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education from East China Normal University in Shanghai, China, and later completed her Master of Education in International Education from Framingham State University.
As a Mandarin Subject Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent Bothell, Ms. Yang aims to spark a lasting interest in both the Chinese language and culture. “I strive to help each student reach their full potential while fostering curiosity, respect, and global understanding.” Her classroom is a space where students develop communication skills and cultural awareness through interactive and meaningful learning experiences.
“I chose BASIS Independent Schools because of their strong commitment to academic excellence and their unique approach to education that values both depth and rigor,” Ms. Yang says. She believes that every student can thrive when given an environment where they feel supported, respected, and inspired.
A favorite classroom project involves a Chinese idiom movie-making activity. Students work in groups to explore idioms, develop scripts, and produce their own clips to bring each phrase to life. The creative process, she says, deepens both comprehension and enthusiasm for language.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Yang enjoys exploring new cultures through food and travel. She’s especially passionate about trying unique dishes from around the world—whether sampling street food in Asia or learning traditional family recipes. She also loves hiking and finds peace in the outdoors.
