Mr. Sturm is the Subject Expert Teacher for math and science in Grade 2 and science in Grade 4. Prior to joining BASIS Independent Bothell, Mr. Sturm earned a double Bachelor’s in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and a Master’s in Education Literacy. He also has a National Board Certification in Literacy. Mr. Sturm comes to math and science after struggling with them when he was a student. “I love having the ability to focus on teaching these two subjects and helping students grow and become scientists and mathematicians,” Mr. Sturm says. “I love being able to help students being able to find ways to move through their struggles and find success.” He wants his classroom to be an active place, where students are moving, doing activities, and also learning from each other. "Students sharing their thinking is vitally important in growing and understanding concepts,” Mr. Sturm says. When not in his classroom, he loves to travel.
