Coach Shelp
Athletic Director
Coach Shelp brings a dual passion for physical education and athletic program development to BASIS Independent Bellevue. As a former NCAA college baseball player and private high school athlete, he has seen firsthand the impact of high-level, well-structured sports programs. Now serving as both Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Coordinator, he draws from those experiences to create opportunities where students can grow physically, socially, and emotionally through sport. His goal in the PE classroom is to cultivate lifelong skills—teamwork, communication, perseverance, and self-confidence—by providing a space where students can take risks, compete with integrity, and learn from both success and failure. Coach Shelp has coached at the junior varsity and varsity levels and also taught surfing, with a deep belief that physical activity is a powerful tool for personal growth. Coach Shelp chose BASIS Independent Bellevue because of its high academic standards, commitment to continual growth, and supportive school community that values the role of athletics in student development. He is excited to help build a vibrant athletics culture that supports the well-being and success of all students. A fun fact about him is that his great-great-great uncle was the President of Mexico!
