Before joining BASIS Independent Fremont, Ms. Sheelu taught grade 1 at Rato Bangala School in Nepal, where she was recognized for her innovative, student-centered teaching approach. A passionate and dedicated educator, she is known for her compassion, care, and strong sense of responsibility toward her students.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Sheelu has made significant contributions to teacher professional development. She participated in teacher training programs through the Rato Bangala Foundation in collaboration with Kathmandu University and Bank Street College of Education (NY), and has become a respected teacher educator. She has led numerous workshops and conference sessions focused on educational philosophy and best practices, reflecting her dedication to continuous learning and professional excellence.

Her teaching philosophy centers on fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom where every student feels valued and empowered to participate. She emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and the integration of digital tools with social-emotional learning in an interdisciplinary curriculum. She also believes strongly in building strong relationships with families to support each child’s success. Ms. Sheelu believes, “Children learn best when they know their teacher loves them,” and brings this principle into every aspect of her teaching.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Sheelu enjoys cooking, hiking, writing, and spending time with her family. She has published four Nepali children’s books and is excited to share her love of storytelling with the BASIS community.
