Ms. Haranahalli first joined BASIS Independent Schools as the Director of Academic Programs at Fremont Upper School in November 2021. She joined following her role as the Head of School at a local language school, overseeing administration, operations, communication, enrollment, curriculum, parent interfacing, staff management, and curriculum development. Ms. Haranahalli has played a key role at the Fremont campus, helping build its academic program and supporting a growing community that is now a fully developed and successful middle and high school.

She was instrumental in shaping a robust academic program, introducing grades 11 and 12, expanding the Advanced Program offerings, and offering unique elective and Capstone courses. Ms. Haranahalli supports students with course planning and graduation requirements while guiding teachers with curriculum resources and training. Her leadership continues to strengthen the academic experience for the entire school community. She remains deeply grateful for the trust and support of the school community and staff throughout her journey at BASIS Independent Fremont. Ms. Haranahalli is proud to be a founding member of BASIS Independent Dublin.

What inspired you to work in schools, and what drew you to the BASIS Independent Dublin community?

I began my career as a teacher, even though I later transitioned into the software technology industry. I taught Computer and Electronics Circuit Design at a community college that served students from humble backgrounds. Seeing my students excel and pursue successful careers in the computer and electronics industry was a deeply fulfilling experience. I understood the power of quality education.

Over the years, through volunteering at my son’s elementary school and leading a nonprofit language school, I became convinced that working in education means being part of a child’s growth and achievement; something I find incredibly rewarding. I truly enjoy my work and approach each day knowing that my contributions matter.

I have always thrived in startup environments and small schools, where innovation is encouraged, and there is room for growth and meaningful impact. Being a founding staff member of a new school offers the same exciting opportunities, and I am thrilled to be part of this journey at BASIS Independent Dublin.

What does a typical day look like for you on campus?

My typical day involves extensive coordination to ensure classrooms and teachers receive the support they need. While these responsibilities are consistent, the nature of my work varies throughout the year. For example, during high-stakes assessment periods, my focus shifts to organizing exam logistics; ensuring all materials are prepared, assigning proctors and supervisors, and providing the necessary support so students can complete their exams smoothly.

Beyond assessments, I manage modified schedules for testing and special events, assist teachers with curriculum resources, and help them navigate school systems and tools. Each day brings unique challenges, but my goal remains the same: to create an environment where both students and teachers can thrive.

How do you support teachers in delivering engaging and meaningful learning experiences?

As Director of Academic Programs, one of my core responsibilities is empowering teachers to succeed. At the start of each academic year, I work closely with faculty to understand their needs, their strengths, and their expectations. I plan their teaching accordingly and ensure they have the resources and tools needed for a strong start. Throughout the year, I provide ongoing support, whether it’s guiding them with BASIS Curriculum implementation, connecting them with the right resources, helping them with troubleshooting systems, or introducing innovative academic resources. My focus is on creating an environment where teachers feel confident and equipped, enabling them to deliver exceptional learning experiences that help students thrive.

What are you most excited about in your role at a new school?

I am excited to be on the frontlines of launching a brand-new school and building its academic program from the ground up. This opportunity allows me to make a meaningful impact and contribute to creating a strong foundation for student success. A rigorous academic program is the cornerstone of any great school, and the BASIS Curriculum is renowned for its high standards. Ensuring these standards are upheld through thoughtful planning, training, and support at a new campus is both a challenge and a privilege. I look forward to being part of this journey and helping shape a success story that will inspire students, teachers, and the entire school community.
