Ms. Shi is an Art and Engineering Subject Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley Lower School. She holds a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and a minor in Art Design from Nanjing Normal University, as well as a Master of Art Education from the Academy of Art University. She chose BASIS Independent Schools for its internationally acclaimed curriculum and network of top-ranked private schools, as well as the opportunity to work as a Subject Expert Teacher in her field. Ms. Shi’s teaching philosophy is student-centered, grounded in the belief that students of any age are capable of great work when inspired and empowered to think and create like artists. She emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning, encouraging students to explore, experiment with different mediums, and develop critical thinking skills through the creative process, often incorporating art history and collaborative discussions.

One of her favorite classroom activities involved guiding students to design posters advocating for environmental protection. By showing images and videos of pollution, students were inspired to create thoughtful and visually compelling designs that communicated the importance of caring for the planet.

Outside of school, Ms. Shi enjoys reading, cooking, going to the beach, and traveling. She loves being in nature, exploring new places, and sampling foods from around the world, though she admits that her favorite cuisine is still Chinese food.
