Mr. Robbins
Music & Drama
Early Learning, Primary Program
Mr. Robbin’s academic journey began at San Francisco State University, where he studied Theater Arts, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Drama with a focus on Directing and Musical Theatre Composition. During his time there, he served as the president of the Drama Department's student organization and received an award for “excellence in playwriting.”
At BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, Mr. Robbin’s serves as the Music and Drama educator for TK - Grade 1. He chose BASIS Independent Schools because of the SET and LET model, believing that the tag-teaming approach between teachers will be both fun and effective.
Mr. Robbin’s teaching philosophy centers on the idea that the Performing Arts offer invaluable lessons, regardless of age, role, background, or passions. He believes that the imagination, confidence, and compassion developed through the arts will last a lifetime.
He thinks students learn best when they are both challenged and having fun. In his classroom, Mr. Robbin’s uses graduated levels within exercises, starting with simple tasks that develop into more complex ones. This approach gives students a sense of accomplishment and ownership over their skill-building.
One of Mr. Robbin’s favorite activities to do with his students is what he calls a “theatre festival” exercise. He sets the students free to work in groups to create short plays within specific time and creative constraints. The groups then perform for each other and provide positive feedback.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Robbin’s continues to pursue theater and music professionally. He also enjoys backpacking and playing tennis.
