Middle School
Ms. Jensen is the Subject Expert English Teacher for Middle School at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Florida International University and holds a College Counseling Certificate from the University of California, San Diego. Her goal as an educator is to provide students with a strong foundation in Language Arts that helps them express themselves clearly while challenging them to develop and apply critical thinking skills.
She chose BASIS Independent Schools because it offers the opportunity to teach rigorous material in a supportive environment, fostering growth for eager and motivated learners. Ms. Jensen’s teaching philosophy is centered on a people-first approach: by treating students as individuals with patience and compassion, she cultivates meaningful connections that inspire and nurture their passions. She believes students learn best when the content connects to topics that spark their curiosity, and she uses interactive methods such as gamification and hands-on projects to maximize engagement.
One of her favorite classroom activities involves interactive notebooks, which students can continue to use as tools in the future. She encourages her Grammar Notebooks to travel with students all the way into high school, providing a practical and personal resource for ongoing learning.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Jensen enjoys exploring ideas for TED talks, plotting novels that may never be written, and playing an almost unhealthy amount of video games.
