Ms. Evanger
Physical Education & Health
Middle School
Ms. Evanger began her academic journey at Gavilan College, where she earned two Associate of Arts degrees in Kinesiology and Communication Studies. She then transferred to San José State University, completing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, a Master of Arts in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Management, and a teaching credential in Physical Education.
She is currently a Physical Education Subject Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, where she teaches high school and Grade 6 students. Her goal as an educator is to create an inclusive, student-centered environment that helps all students find meaningful and enjoyable ways to stay active while developing lifelong skills and confidence.
She chose BASIS Independent Schools because she resonates deeply with its mission and philosophy, particularly the emphasis on the teacher-student relationship as a foundation for success, opportunity, and responsibility.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that Physical Education should go beyond sports and competition to foster lifelong habits of movement and wellness. She works to ensure that every student feels included, valued, and motivated to stay active in ways that are personally meaningful. She believes students learn best in an environment where they feel comfortable and supported, and she prioritizes building positive teacher-student relationships as the key to engagement and success.
To maximize student engagement, she incorporates cooperative learning activities, small-group collaboration, and peer teaching opportunities, all of which encourage teamwork, communication, and active participation.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Evanger is passionate about coaching and playing lacrosse, attending country concerts, and spending time with friends, family, and her dog, Remi. Sports have always been central in her life—she competed in basketball, field hockey, and lacrosse in high school, played college club lacrosse, and later discovered her passion for coaching. In 2020, she founded her own high school girls’ lacrosse program and has continued to grow it each season. In 2024, she was honored as Coach of the Year by USA Lacrosse for the Northern California Region. A fun fact about her: her high school lacrosse jersey number, 23, was retired in her honor.
