High School

Ms. Xu grew up in China and earned a Bachelor of Education degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Zhejiang University. She moved to the United States for graduate school and earned her Single Subject Teaching Credential from Loyola Marymount University. She graduated from the University of California with a Master of Arts degree in Bilingual Education. She was a founding faculty member at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and served our community for two years by helping to grow the World Language Department as our school was first established. Ms. Xu then relocated to the Los Angeles area where she taught variety of high-level Chinese courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) coursework at several schools. Before coming back home to our campus, she first returned to the BASIS Independent family as a Subject Expert Teacher at the BASIS Independent Fremont, followed by a year at BASIS Independent Manhattan. Ms. Xu comes from a long line of educators and knew since she was young that she also wanted to be a teacher. Her teaching style incorporates culture and language lessons to bring a greater context to what her students are learning. “My mother, my grandfather, my aunts, and uncles, they were all teachers,” Ms. Xu says. “In China, we respect teachers, like doctors and lawyers, so I wanted to be a teacher as well.” When she is not teaching, Ms. Xu enjoys hiking and singing karaoke. She also likes traveling all around the world.‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌
