Ms. Yu earned her Master's degree in World History from Peking University and was recognized with the Outstanding Teacher Award in Hangzhou, China, in 2020. Ms. Yu chose BASIS Independent Schools because she values their commitment to developing effective learning methods and fostering the "Be A Link" campus culture. Her teaching philosophy is centered around the belief that each child is like a unique flower or tree, growing at their own pace and in their own way. She emphasizes the importance of giving students the time, opportunity, and freedom to explore, practice, and learn from their experiences.

Ms. Yu believes that students learn best through self-education and peer-education, so she is dedicated to providing them with diverse opportunities to engage in activities, practice, and collaboration. In her classroom, she uses step-by-step tasks, real-life scenario-based experiential learning, hands-on crafts, and gamified learning to maximize student engagement. One of the best activities she led was in 2023 when she guided students in creating a campus movie, Finding the Bumblebee, which became a brief campus promotional film.

Outside of teaching, Ms. Yu enjoys sports, reading, dancing, and singing. A fun fact about her is that she was a singer in a school band during her high school years.
