High School

Dr. Movshovitz brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for physics to the BASIS Independent Silicon Valley team. With an extensive academic background, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a Master of Science in Geophysical, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences from Tel Aviv University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Throughout his research career, which began in 2004, Dr. Movshovitz has focused on investigating the origin and evolution of planetary bodies within our Solar System. From studying small asteroids to the largest planets, his research has centered on developing complex simulations and applying fundamental physics principles to intriguing scenarios. By employing concepts such as Newtonian gravity and rigid-body dynamics, he has explored phenomena like the dynamics of gravel in the microgravity environment on the surface of an asteroid. Dr. Movshovitz finds great enjoyment in the early stages of each project, where he can delve into the underlying physics and the mathematical tools necessary for analysis. Dr. Movshovitz recognizes that fostering student interest is a vital component of successful learning. He believes in cultivating and sustaining curiosity, going beyond textbook learning by incorporating captivating case studies. By engaging students in condensed real-life scientific projects, whether from Victorian times, ancient Greece, or modern-day California, he allows them to apply the skills and theories they have acquired in class. Outside of the classroom, Dr. Movshovitz finds solace in nature, particularly while observing the Pacific Ocean. He enjoys leisurely walks with his dog and indulges in the whimsical hobby of whittling silly wooden ghosts. As a fun fact, he reveals a unique twist to a classic treat, as he prefers making s'mores with melted Starburst candy instead of traditional marshmallows.‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌
