Mr. Schindler
Physics & Math
Middle School, High School
Mr. Schindler received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Arizona State University and his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Astronomy from Northern Arizona University. Before moving to the Bay Area in 2022, he worked as a science educator and telescope operator in Northern Arizona. In 2021, he traveled cross-country and spent several months in Chicago before settling in California. As a Subject Expert Teacher in Physics at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, his goal is to share his love for physics, hoping to ignite similar interest in his students. He believes that studying physics can be fun and rewarding despite its challenges.
Mr. Schindler chose BASIS Independent Silicon Valley because of its school culture that supports all STEM fields, allowing young students to engage in science at levels typically reserved for university, thereby providing them with a diverse range of academic experiences. His teaching philosophy mirrors a line from the Disney animated classic, Ratatouille: “Anybody can cook!” Likewise, Mr. Schindler believes, “Anybody can do physics!” He emphasizes that anyone can learn physics with lots of practice and that every student can understand even the most difficult concepts.
Mr. Schindler believes that students learn best when they are interested and excited about the subject. He strives to get students as enthusiastic about learning physics as he is about teaching it, showing them that physics is, indeed, cool. In the classroom, he maximizes student engagement through questioning, discussion, and demonstrations to help visualize concepts before delving into the mathematics behind them. One of his favorite activities so far has been demonstrating the conservation of momentum and energy by dropping a golf ball on top of a basketball, launching the golf ball high into the air.
Outside of the classroom, Mr. Schindler enjoys spending time at home with his cats and playing video games, with favorites including all Pokémon games and Portal. He is an avid Marvel movie fan and enjoys discussing them at length, with Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse being his top pick. He also loves stargazing and astrophotography, identifying all northern hemisphere constellations. A fun fact about Mr. Schindler is that he has an asteroid named after him.
