Ms. Khan
Director of Student Affairs, Middle School
Ms. Saira Khan serves as the Director of Student Affairs at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, where she is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive middle school environment where students can grow academically and personally. She holds an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Ohlone College, a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a minor in English from California State University, East Bay, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from California State University, East Bay. She also earned a Professional Education Certificate in Leadership Entry from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Ms. Khan chose BASIS Independent Schools because she believes in what students can achieve when they are both challenged and supported. She values the balance between high expectations and meaningful guidance and is inspired by the opportunity to be part of a school community that helps students recognize their potential and develop a strong sense of purpose.
Her educational philosophy centers on the belief that students thrive when they feel supported, challenged, and valued. She believes strong relationships are the foundation of student success and strives to create an environment where students can build confidence, resilience, responsibility, and a strong sense of self. By providing clear expectations, structure, and social-emotional support, Ms. Khan encourages students to think independently, learn from mistakes, and approach challenges with confidence.
Outside of school, Ms. Khan enjoys spending time with her children and family, working out, exploring new places, and continuing to learn. A fun fact: she lived in the Himalayas for nearly two years.
