She is a Subject Expert History Teacher at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley. Her goal as an educator is to present content in a layered manner, helping students build knowledge while developing critical thinking skills that will serve them beyond the classroom.

Dr. Ramanath enjoys teaching at BASIS Independent Schools because of the high expectations shared between students and faculty. She appreciates the freedom to explore subjects in depth, encouraging elevated content and unique projects.

Her teaching philosophy is centered on skill development rather than rote memorization. Especially in history, she believes that cultivating critical thinking is far more valuable. She uses various teaching modalities, such as lectures, videos, pictures, and primary sources, to make history relevant and engaging for her students.

One of her best lessons involved a group activity where students examined the impact of Columbus' colonization of the Taino people in the Bahamas. The discussion encouraged critical thinking about who bore responsibility for the devastation of the native population, sparking a lively debate in the classroom.

Outside of teaching, Dr. Ramanath enjoys reading for pleasure and has recently ventured into the science fiction and fantasy genres. After finishing Dune, she is on the lookout for more epics in this genre.
