Mr. Salehzai earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics from Northwestern University and a Master of Arts in Teaching Latin from the University of Michigan. As a Latin/Classics Subject Expert Teacher, Mr. Salehzai aims to show students how ancient civilizations relate to modern issues, fostering personalized discussions about life. He chose BASIS Independent for its unique opportunity to teach young students about ancient civilizations and Latin.

Mr. Salehzai’s teaching philosophy focuses on creating a positive learning environment where all students feel valued. He encourages participation, gamifies lessons, and views lack of engagement as a chance to improve his teaching strategies. He believes in fostering empathy and community alongside academic excellence. Students learn best through collaborative learning, and Mr. Salehzai uses interactive games and activities to make lessons engaging. His favorite lesson involves detective scenarios in Latin, helping students solve mysteries using clues.

Outside of teaching, he enjoys working out, baking, spending time with his cats Gucci and Chanel, and playing RPG video games.
