When moving to the United States, she obtained her Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from San Jose City College in San Jose, California. Ms. Wei is an Early Learning Teacher in Mandarin at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley Lower campus. As a Mandarin teacher, her goal is to get every student excited about the language. She believes that learning a language does not have to be tedious. Ms. Wei uses a new, yet simple approach when teaching Mandarin. She uses a variety of materials and ideas to create projects that are fun for her students and that help them to build the language foundation. Teaching Mandarin as an interdisciplinary bridge that connects the unique needs and interests of each student allows for student engagement and elevates their learning skills in Mandarin and other subjects. Ms. Wei’s teaching philosophy is that students learn through study and experience. She respects every student’s learning abilities and believes that each student has great potential to be discovered with the right guidance and support. She creates an educational atmosphere where she uses positive reinforcement to celebrate a student’s success and improvement in the classroom. Ms. Wei recognizes that each student is different and some require a unique teaching style. To motivate her students to learn, she looks for their strengths and interests and works on those qualities to build enthusiasm. Her classes include art, music, games, and hands-on activities that dive into Chinese culture. Ms. Wei enjoys drawing or reading in her backyard while drinking a fresh cup of hot tea. She loves to get a fresh start to the day and relax when she is not teaching. Sometimes she feels adventurous and wants to travel and explore new activities and cities.
