Parent Community
Building Our Community Together
We believe the best learning environment flourishes when families get involved and collaborate with educators to shape the school community together. From the outset, parents are invited to participate and contribute to the fabric of school life, ensuring that every student and every family feels welcome and belongs. We offer many ways to engage, and what matters above all is the spirit of collaboration—ongoing family-educator partnerships rooted in mutual respect, trust, and a commitment to every student’s growth. At BASIS Independent McLean, because of our unique model, we do not fundraise or ask families to make donations as a regular part of participating in our school community. This deliberate approach keeps parent involvement refreshingly uncomplicated and strengthens the integrity of the relationship between families and the school.
Get Involved
Parent Ambassadors
Parent Ambassadors can offer support in two distinct ways: collaborating with our Admissions team on participating in open houses, college counseling nights, and other events and welcoming and connecting with new and prospective families by answering questions and sharing their own experiences.
Parent Committees
The Parent Community Association (PCA) organizes teacher appreciation initiatives, grade-level activities (such as bowling and ice cream socials), and school-wide events. Grade-Level Representatives coordinate grade-level social events, and serve as liaisons between school administrators and families, provide feedback on school policies and support their implementation, and offer feedback on student and parent experiences.
Events & Extracurriculars
Should they choose, parents can immerse themselves in the school community by participating in, helping organize, and volunteering at signature school events: student orientations, Middle School dances, High School Networking Night, Fall Festival, International Day, Soiree with School Leadership, Holi celebrations, and Honor Society Induction Ceremonies. They are also invited to play volunteer roles in extracurriculars, including sponsoring clubs, overseeing competitions, and coaching sports teams.
Grade-Level Connections
Every grade level offers its own opportunities for parents to join in. Lower School parents can visit classrooms to share cultural traditions, celebrate a child’s birthday, and serve as guest readers. Upper School parents offer support with Senior Project internship placement and visit classrooms as guest speakers to relay career insights.
