Chemistry

High School

Meet Dr. Hartman, our Honors and AP Chemistry teacher who has been part of the BASIS Independent McLean team since our inaugural year in 2016. Dr. Hartman obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Florida State University and went on to earn a PhD in Chemistry from Old Dominion University. Prior to joining the BIM team, Dr. Hartman was an adjunct chemistry professor at Germanna Community College and substitute taught for Fairfax County Public Schools. Dr. Hartman is known for her passion for teaching and her ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment in her classroom. She believes that every student has the potential to succeed and works hard to help each student reach their full potential. In her classroom, Dr. Hartman uses a variety of teaching strategies to help students understand complex chemistry concepts. She encourages active learning and provides plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions and engage in discussions. Her classroom is often filled with hands-on activities, lab experiments, and group practice sets that help students apply what they have learned in class. On campus, Dr. Hartman is an active member of our community. To name a few of her involvements she is an Earth House faculty advisor, a senior project advisor, and a frequent team member of faculty sports teams. Additionally, Dr. Hartman enjoys sparking an interest in science with the younger students on campus by providing chemistry-themed demos to early-learning students throughout the school year. Outside of the classroom, Dr. Hartman enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and watching reality TV.‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌
