Mr. Wright
Associate Head of School
Mr. Wright currently serves as the Associate Head of School at BASIS Independent McLean, having previously held the position of Director of Upper School. In his current role, he supports the school's Learning and Subject Expert Teachers, and students across all grade levels, from toddlers to seniors. His favorite aspect of the role is the variety it provides: one could find him reading a book to a classroom of PK2 students in the morning, meeting with a senior during lunch to discuss a research idea for a Senior Project, and in a professional development planning meeting with colleagues in the afternoon.
When asked about what makes BASIS Independent McLean the special community that it is, he shares, “Our school is one in which we pair expert, dedicated, caring teachers with focused, academically motivated, kind students. What results is a truly powerful learning environment.” He adds, “We also have a great time as a community, gathering in many ways, including our annual Fall Fest, Winterfest, Great Big Community Event, and monthly House events.”
Over the past 20+ years Mr. Wright has held various teaching and leadership positions in independent schools. He believes the classroom should be a place of high engagement and deep thinking, where student-centered learning is emphasized. Before transitioning into independent schools, he led pre-professional programs for high school students interested in medicine, law, and international relations.
Mr. Wright holds an Ed.M. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University, an Ed.M. in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Biology from Boston University.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, playing soccer, hiking, traveling, and taking in all that the greater Washington, D.C. area has to offer.
