-The Today Show BASIS Independent Fremont’s rising junior Heeya D. made a guest appearance on the TODAY SHOW during a segment where the Princeton Review’s Rob Franek discussed college admissions and Advanced Placement Exams with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush.

McLean student named one of the nation’s top teens in STEM

-Inside NOVA “An independent panel of judges rated students on creativity, change-making and resilience. Hu was the only student from Virginia to be named to the list of the 16 most outstanding STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Math] students in the U.S.

Hu previously earned a third place Grand Award at the 2021 Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair in the earth-and-environment category, for her original research on the use of eastern skunk cabbages to combat soilbank erosion.”

Brooklyn teen creates mental health app to help other teens

-News12 “A Brooklyn teen is using her computer science skills to help launch a mental health app aimed towards helping other teens. The app Geia was created by 19-year-old Kamie A., a recent graduate of BASIS Independent Brooklyn. Aran says teens’ mental health is typically only assessed annually and by a pediatrician.

Through Geia, she says teens can assess their mental wellness on their own and at any time.”

-Inside NOVA “BASIS Independent McLean officials announced Nov. 9 that junior Daria L., a member of the Class of 2023, had earned a perfect score on the Advanced Placement (AP) psychology exam – something accomplished by only six of the more than 262,000 students worldwide who took the exam this year.”

-Bellevue Reporter BASIS Independent Bellevue, “kicked off the school year at full capacity, with 230 students entering grades 2-7. Students will explore humanities, math, sciences, engineering, performing arts, music, Mandarin, visual arts and physical education.”
