AP Research Week 4: Research Paper
May 3, 2023
Hi everyone, It’s about a week and a half until the AP Research deadline and I’m currently in the process of writing up my research paper. From the data responses I have found three key implications:
1st, The Correlation Between Time To Diagnosis And Completion Of The Treatment Indicate That The Longer A Veteran Waited To Be Diagnosed, The More Likely They Did Not Finish Their Treatment. If A Veteran Does Not Receive Treatment Early, It Can Lead To Worsening PTSD Symptoms And Treatment Won’t Be As Effective; This May Be Why Some Veterans Dropped Out And Why There Is A Strong Correlation.
2nd, The Correlation Between Treatment Satisfaction And Openness To Other Psychotherapies Suggests That If A Veteran Was Dissatisfied With Their Current Treatment Option, They Were Likely Try Other Treatments. This Surprised Me Because I Thought There Would Be A Stronger Correlation, But Some Veterans May Have Just Reached A Point Where They Think Their Beyond Help And.Don’t Want To Try Additional Psychotherapies Only To See No Difference.
Finally, The Correlation Between Comfort Talking About Their Trauma And Openness To Other Psychotherapies Seems To Suggest That If A Veteran Is Uncomfortable With Discussing Their Trauma They Were More Likely To Try Other Psychotherapies, Including Ones Involving Animals. Even Though Veterans Were Mostly Likely To Try Other Psychotherapies, This Weaker Correlation Implied That Some People May Have Not Been Fond Of Animals Or May Not Believe That It Actually Works.
While these correlations were not all entirely expected, it still contributed to the overall idea that more alternate psychotherapies are needed for veterans. By having more options, researchers can better find the right veteran population for studies and mental health professionals can better prescribe therapy to veterans. Until next time, Oliver Kuo
