Today we honor the BASIS Independent Brooklyn Class of 2023 and celebrate news of their college acceptances to date. Our graduating class truly helped build our school culture and community, since many graduating students started with us in primary and middle school. Our graduating seniors have focused on looking ahead to programs that will build on their interests nurtured in classes and activities outside of school through the years.
“Members of our Class of 2023 have grown both individually and as a cohort through the years on our campus,” commented Head of School Josh Harmon. “Having taught many of them in sixth grade, I can say firsthand that it did not happen easily or overnight and took a lot of grit and resilience! We have been honored to be a part of each senior’s high school story. We wish them luck with their college decisions and the next chapter in their growth as both students and young adults.”

“Our seniors have wholeheartedly embraced the task of seeking their individualized college fit, which is what I counsel every student towards at BASIS Independent Brooklyn,” shared College Counselor Matt Brauch. “As our Class of 2023 grew through the college search process, students focused on researching programs that aligned with their long-term goals. It was impressive to see their focus on college programs that supported interests cultivated during the last four years through activities pursued both inside and outside of the classroom.”
We are incredibly proud of our Class of 2023. Some highlights:
- 40% of students were offered spots at colleges in the top 25-ranked national and international institutions.
- Amherst College, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Imperial College London, New York University, Northwestern University, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, University of Toronto, University of Virginia, Williams College.
- Four out of 22 of our students applying to colleges this year received offers of admission from Cornell University.
- Students continue to look beyond the U.S. and consider offers of admission from international institutions, including the University of Toronto, Imperial College London, King’s College London, McGill University, and the University of Manchester.
We are proud to share the university and college acceptances received by our 22 students who applied to colleges this year – 20 seniors; one Class of ’22 alum, who applied to schools during a gap year; and one junior who decided to apply to colleges a year early.
Please join us in congratulating our BEARS!

“Our graduating seniors represent a class with strong opinions, and they have learned how to advocate for themselves successfully during their tenure at our school,” said the Director of the High School Program Darlene Forde. “They are developing into engineers, artists, environmentalists, writers, mathematicians, historians, and driven leaders overall with integrity and curiosity. I look forward to hearing more about all that lies in their future.”
Congratulations to our Bears! We know they have a big decision to make before College Matriculation Day on May 1st. We look forward to celebrating their choices with them in person that day. Our soon-to-be graduates have had a huge impact on our school, and we are confident they will develop further into the leaders our world needs in the years to come.
