Introduction

Hey everyone! I am Ava Farboudmanesch. I am excited to begin my research on physician burnout and its effects on individuals in the DMV area and the rate at which it’s occurring. I’m also really looking forward to finding ways to prevent or minimize the rate of burnout within the medical field. I came across this topic over the summer after talking with the vice president of academic affairs for MedStar Health. She talked to me about the prevalence of physician burnout and how it has become a bigger issue since COVID-19 started. After our conversation, I conducted some of my own research and became more interested as I found out more information. I will be interning at the American Academy of Ophthalmology with Mr. Mark Lukaszewski, where I will observe physicians in their working environment, conduct surveys, find and analyze research, and administer interviews. I may need to make some adjustments to my project along the way, but I’ll assess as I progress through the next ten weeks. ‘
