Mr. Whitener is a Subject Expert Teacher in Spanish at BASIS Independent Brooklyn Upper School. He is excited about the opportunity to share his love of the Spanish language and culture with students. Mr. Whitener graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he began his career teaching Spanish enrichment in North Carolina public schools before transitioning to serve as a teaching assistant for a Spanish immersion class. Our school’s advanced curriculum, variety of language courses taught, and commitment to student support drew Mr. Whitener to our Red Hook campus.

Outside of class, Mr. Whitener enjoys exploring the city and community, being outdoors, and watching basketball – particularly UNC!
