In 2008, she received her master’s degree in romantic and renaissance literature at the University of Liverpool in England.
Ms. Pizzino has taught college composition and literature for more than 10 years and has been awarded NEH stipends, presented at conferences, and contributed a chapter entitled “‘We Live in a Time of Monsters’: Teaching Composition through the Representations of Monsters and Monstrosity in Literature” to The Metaphor of the Monster Interdisciplinary Approaches to Understanding the Monstrous Other in Literature.
Ms. Pizzino’s goal as a BASIS Independent educator is to create a student learning environment that includes the questioning of social consciousness and change and gives students the tools to comment on the sociopolitical realities of our world. She is a proud adviser of the National Honor Society chapter at our school.
She was drawn to BASIS Independent Brooklyn because the school supports and fosters open-mindedness, healthy dialogue, and a community of learners who raise each other up and value themselves and others.
When not in the classroom, Ms. Pizzino enjoys museums, plays, concerts, traveling, yoga, running, and baking bread. She has a pet bunny, named Dorian Gray, that she adores.
