Ms. Doherty is an Early Education Teaching Fellow at BASIS Independent Brooklyn’s Lower School campus. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology with High Honors. After graduating in 2024, she worked as a children's book illustrator. Ms. Doherty was inspired to enter the classroom from her experience teaching swimming as a Red Cross swim instructor, where she taught young students for 4 years. Her background in children's book illustration gives her a fun and creative mindset when teaching.

Ms. Doherty's goal is to inspire, create, and grow curiosity and imagination in the classroom. She chose Basis Independent because she shares the value of hard work and believes in challenging students to go above and beyond to achieve their goals.

In Ms. Doherty’s free time, she likes to draw, read mystery books, cook big dinners for friends, and practice swimming, biking, and running for her next triathlon.
