Dr. Fine is a Subject Expert Teacher in our Sciences faculty. He hopes to share his passion for science with students, so that perhaps one day they will add to our collective knowledge. Dr. Fine graduated from Pennsylvania State University before completing his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular genetics at the University of Virginia in 2019. His doctoral research utilized budding yeast—the same organism used to bake bread—to investigate the genetic influences of aging and chromatin structure. After finishing his Ph.D., Dr. Fine moved to New York University’s Center for Human Genetics & Genomics to research yeast as a synthetic biology platform. There, he specialized in building human genes from scratch, inserting them into mice, and developing advanced humanized mouse models for biomedical research. Outside of the classroom, Dr. Fine spends much of his time exploring the culinary world, whether testing new recipes in his kitchen or sampling the diverse restaurants the city has to offer. Dr. Fine believes food is one of the most powerful ways for people to connect and build community.
