Yesterday, Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer Team coac Yesterday, Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer Team coaches and captains traveled to our Lower School campus to train with our youngest Cubs. It was wonderful to see the connection across the grades through a shared love of soccer.

Many thanks to Coach Heilbronn along with Coaches Allison and Jose of @clubatleticobrooklynjuniors for helping lead the sessions. They commented on how much promise they see in our young players!

Our Spring Enrichment Guide was just released today. Registration for clubs and sports opens Dec. 11th.

Studio Art Elective students stepped in the shoes Studio Art Elective students stepped in the shoes of Renaissance masters, exploring the foundations of classical sculpture by creating their own statues with Ms. Weathers.

Using professional sculpting tools and air-dry clay, students studied proportion, gesture, and form while learning how artists of the Renaissance created lifelike figures out of raw materials. Ms. Weathers guided her class in practicing sculpting techniques, from carving and smoothing to creating texture and building dimensional details.

We are proud to showcase their work and celebrate the creativity of our Bears!

Service is a core value at BASIS Independent Brook Service is a core value at BASIS Independent Brooklyn. We regularly ask our community to contribute positively, not just to our school but also to the broader community. This Giving Tuesday, we wanted to feature the organizations that graciously partnered with us on our 5th Annual Day of Service with the High School Program, as well as in many other meaningful programs and drives this fall.

Right before Thanksgiving Break, our entire High School embraced our Annual Day of Service, working with five local non-profits the morning of Tuesday, November 25th. Students were given options of service projects to participate in, and our most recent blog post details this as well as the many other service programs underway.

From Maya: @heartofdinner is an organization that sees the struggles of many elderly Asians in New York City and asks the question: "Is this how we would want our grandparents to be treated?" Heart of Dinner (in mandarin known as 愛心餐)delivers "nutrient-dense care packages" to the elderly Asian community. A community that is also faced with loneliness and isolation. This can be offset with the decorated bags and meal packages that Heart of Dinner provides.

My mom is a children's book illustration agent, and every few years she holds a party for her artists and clients. Who is better to illustrate these cheerful bags than someone who draws for living?

These artists, a majority who do not speak Mandarin, brought another group to mind: Mandarin students at my school. After communicating with the deans and Mandarin teachers they all wanted to participate. Overall, more than 400 bags were decorated by students from Gr. 1-11 and the children's book illustrators!

Thank you to Maya and all the students who made this Thanksgiving special for many of the seniors served by Heart of Dinner!
