Week 1: Working Plans

Hey all, and welcome back to my blog. This week I created a plan for the project going forward, which keeps my goals realistic. I plan on asking numerous feral cat organizations—some of which I’ve previously contacted and interviewed—about certain behaviors of ferals, such as digging into soil to cover their excrement, that can end up killing solitary bees. I also plan to interview Alisa Yalan-Murphy, who helps with feral cat curbing efforts, especially through TNR trapping.

I’ve also read a few academic articles about human-centric city designs, and how they impact the ecosystem. This causes cityfolk to develop a very superficial view of overpopulation; I’ve read a history article dating all the way back to Maoist China which is very similar to today’s public perception of NYC’s feral cat crisis. Overall, the research has been going very well, and I’m optimistic about the upcoming weeks!
