Week 0 (Introduction)

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Noah Louis, a senior at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, and my Senior Project assesses planned responses to the consequences of modern infrastructure on land use and zoning. While there are varying theories on maximizing the efficiency of land use, my project delves into relevant short-term policy that is currently being rolled out, along with the existing and potential trajectories for the long term. My primary focus is New York City, a world benchmark for zoning and land use, and the general surrounding area, where many of the threats posed by urban sprawl are visible and omnipresent. I hope to gain an understanding of the rationale behind our plans through direct observation and interaction with policymakers, following ongoing projects by sitting in at offices and hearings as well as interviewing members of the city council.
