Below are some of the most common questions about our program. We know that you are bound to have more questions—please contact us. We’re here to help.
BASIS Independent Manhattan does not offer financial aid. However, families may submit tuition in three different ways: one payment, two half-payments, or 10 monthly installments.
Fundraising requires administrative overhead that would pull our Head of School’s attention away from the classroom, and we don’t want families to feel pressured to contribute financially or to wonder whether extra giving buys influence at the school. Parents who want to get involved have other avenues, including our Parent Volunteer Committee.
PreK-1 students must turn 3 by September 1, PreK-2 students must turn 4 by September 1, and Kindergarten students must turn 5 by September 1. See our Admissions overview for full details.
At BASIS Independent Manhattan, our curriculum is intentionally challenging. We know students can rise to challenges that stretch them further than they’d expect on their own. We encourage them to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and tackle complex ideas with confidence.
They don’t do it alone. Every student has access to teacher office hours, peer tutoring (Monday–Friday), and a community of faculty, staff, and families committed to helping them grow. From their very first day, students learn that challenge is paired with support—and that persistence, curiosity, and resilience are just as important as achievement.
Yes. Families receive a tuition credit for each new family referred to and enrolled at BASIS Independent Manhattan. The new family will also receive a tuition credit. Learn more about our family referral program.
BASIS Independent Manhattan does not have a dedicated special-needs team or school psychologist on staff. However, our faculty and administrators regularly work one-on-one with families to support, challenge, and motivate students who need learning accommodations.

All BASIS Independent Schools feature the tested, refined, and proven educational philosophy and learning approach that has been developed since 1998. However, BASIS Independent Schools are distinctive in our lower student-to-teacher ratio and campus facilities. We are also tuition based and have a selective admissions process. Among New York private schools, BASIS Independent Manhattan takes a distinctive approach to AI in the classroom. Instead of treating it as a shortcut, our curriculum teaches students to use AI tools to work more efficiently, without sacrificing comprehension.
That mindset carries beyond the classroom through our school’s Future-Ready Mentor Program, which pairs personalized assessments of student strengths and interests with leadership development, preparing students for career paths that are already being reshaped by AI.
To earn AP Scholar with Distinction, the College Board’s top AP honor, a student needs a 3 or higher on at least five AP exams and a 3.5 average across every AP exam taken in high school. Every single graduate in BASIS Independent Schools’ 2025 class hit that bar — a 100% rate network-wide. Learn more about our AP achievements.
Families choose BASIS Independent Manhattan because our academically ambitious program pushes students to discover what they’re truly capable of. Our teachers challenge each student to reason critically, work through complex problems, and build the confidence to engage with new ideas at every stage.
That personalized growth starts in our Early Learning Program, where curiosity and joyful discovery build the foundation for everything that follows, and carries through to High School, where students take on advanced coursework and complete a Senior Project. Every step along the way is designed to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
