Last Saturday, the BIM Aerospace & Astronomy Club Last Saturday, the BIM Aerospace & Astronomy Club launched its second rocket, an “Estes So Long II” model. Over two months of club meetings, students demonstrated great creativity, resourcefulness, and collaboration. This rocket was a more advanced version than their previous one and reached an impressive height of 2,718 feet!

Competing among 400+ top projects, all three BIM entries placed in their divisions:

🥇 Sumer C. ’28 — 1st Place (Computer Science) + Grand Prize → advancing to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, AZ
🥇 Rishik P. ’27 & Soumil B. ’26 — 1st Place (Biomedical Engineering) → advancing to the Virginia State Fair
🥉 Sarah R. ’27 — 3rd Place (Biomedical Engineering)

Students also received recognition from organizations including Virginia Tech, the Society for Women Engineers, and the Patent and Trademark Office Society.
