Week 5

I have switched up my AP Research project up a bit and am now studying different misinformation intervention tactics on social media sites to better understand how social media sites can prevent the spread of misinformation.

To conduct my study, I identified four major social media sites that use intervention tactics; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. I then collected data from each site and coded content from various posts. I categorized each post, noting whether the post was labeled as fact-checked or had been promoted as an authoritative source. Once I categorized each post, I identified any signs of false or misleading information. To identify these signs, I verified flagged information through other trusted sources such as scholarly, peer-reviewed articles. Once I confirmed the presence or absence of misinformation, I compared the accuracy of each intervention tactic.

Right now, I am working on analyzing my results to determine which intervention tactic is most effective.
