Week 3: Update
April 6, 2023
The following post is intended to be posted earlier.
Hi guys! I dived into the xinrujia school, and I think many of the arguments made about ancient Chinese Confucianism can be adapted into the modern Chinese new Confucianism. One central argument made was that Confucianism was a tool used by the governing body to maintain political stability and defend the invasion of foreign ideology. This sentence was to describe how the Buddhist, Islam, and other religions’ attempt to dominate China has been either rejected or neutralized by Confucianism. I think this argument aligns with my previous discovery pretty well – since the government wants to protect its current Marxist-Leninist ideology from the invasion of foreign capitalist ideology, Confucianism was specifically adopted by the government. This makes sense because the current New Confucianism can be argued as a cherry-picked version of Confucianism since many of orthodox Confucianism’s individualist ideas are erased.
I am trying to find out what this particular adoption’s impact would be. I will see you next week.
