Week 3 – Another Slow Week, Adding More Features
March 24, 2023
Here’s to another week! This one’s just as boring as the last, but it’s the boring weeks like these that are the bread and butter of this type of work. I am nearly done with the foundation stuff (for real this time), and cannot wait to actually get to the interesting stuff.
First, I now have housing, and players now prioritize building houses on their properties at the start of every turn. It goes without saying that rent prices now depend on the number of houses on a property, which was painful to program, but it’s done.
I also added Passing Go (the standard $200), so players now actually have non-rent income! It’s looking like we actually have a workable game now.
Last and least important by far, the Income Tax Square now actually does what it’s supposed to. Players will preferentially pay either the $200 or 10%, depending on whatever’s less money.
That’s all for this week. Though it was boring, I can’t stress enough how important this work is. The plan is to finish with the base stuff next week, and then move on to phase 2: “actually playing around with taxes and stuff.” Stay tuned folks.
