Celebrating Read Week at BASIS Independent Bellevu Celebrating Read Week at BASIS Independent Bellevue has been a blast! Students made their own bookmarks, attended read aloud sessions led by members of the admin team, dressed up like their favorite book characters, participated in Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R) time, and even donated their well-loved books to help support their community. Additionally, there was incredible support for our Scholastic Book Fair with over $3,000 of merchandise sold. Part of the proceeds go directly back to our school, so thank you to all community members who participated!

Today, our National Honor Society students braved Today, our National Honor Society students braved the rain and cold to volunteer at the Bellevue Urban Garden. They were guided by one of the founders, Maybin, who shared his story of immigrating from Zambia, his experience with food insecurity, and his passion for community-building. The students then worked on a variety of tasks to support the garden’s functions, including harvesting seeds, planting, and weeding.

This project was NHS’s chapter-wide community event, coordinated by their executive committee. It was a challenging day, but the students persevered and made a positive impact in providing food resources for the Bellevue community. Special thanks to Cindy L., Timothy W., and especially David X. for bringing this project to life!

Basketball season has officially come to a close, Basketball season has officially come to a close, and what a year it was for our Mountaineers!

Our D2 team finished the season with a strong 5–4 winning record, while our D1 team capped off an incredible undefeated season at 9–0.

In their last game, both squads swept Kirkland Seventh-Day Adventist School, earning wins at the D2 and D1 levels to finish the season on a high note. D1 standout Yan X. (8Pt) capped off a dominant scoring season by pouring in 20 points in the first half, showcasing consistency, confidence, and leadership on the court.

Congratulations to all of our basketball players and to Coach D. for the tremendous growth, teamwork, and success they displayed throughout the season. We are proud of the hard work and commitment shown by both programs, and we appreciate all the support from families and fans. Please enjoy these photos from the season, including our Blackout Game against Billings in which grade 10 students Adham H. and Jeremy D. provided live game announcements, and Clara J., Melody L., and Helena C. performed as part of K-Pop Dance Club.

Have you heard the buzz? 🐝 Last week, BASIS I Have you heard the buzz? 🐝

Last week, BASIS Independent Bellevue hosted our second annual Scripps National Spelling Bee. Out of the 22 students in grades 5-8 who took the preliminary written round, 12 students advanced to the oral round. The competition eventually narrowed to our top three spellers by round 9, with Boyan Z. from grade 6 ultimately winning round 11 with “patisserie.” He then went on to correctly spell the winning word, “cannelloni.”

Congratulations to Boyan for earning the title of BASIS Independent Bellevue’s Champion Speller! Congratulations also go to our 2nd place winner Mira A. from G7 and our 3rd place winner Olivia Z. from G5. We are proud of all our students who competed this year. Way to go, spellers!

We wish Boyan the best of luck as he moves on to participate in the regional spelling bee. If you would like to support Boyan at this event, all BLV community members are welcome to attend the regional round on March 29 at 1:00 PM at Seattle’s Town Hall. We hope to see you there!
