At BASIS Independent Bellevue, we value the time t At BASIS Independent Bellevue, we value the time that we are able to designate for professional development. Last week, Ms. Huang, our Director of Student Affairs, designed an amazing session that focused on the implementation of center-based learning, which is an approach using designated classroom stations for hands-on, play-based, and independent education. During this time, our teachers got the opportunity to work with and learn from one another as they rotated through four different sample classrooms led by some of their talented colleagues. It is through interactive learning and a collaborative mindset that we are able to set high standards and continue to empower our educators to be creative in their approach to teaching.

Celebrating Read Week at BASIS Independent Bellevu Celebrating Read Week at BASIS Independent Bellevue has been a blast! Students made their own bookmarks, attended read aloud sessions led by members of the admin team, dressed up like their favorite book characters, participated in Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R) time, and even donated their well-loved books to help support their community. Additionally, there was incredible support for our Scholastic Book Fair with over $3,000 of merchandise sold. Part of the proceeds go directly back to our school, so thank you to all community members who participated!

Today, our National Honor Society students braved Today, our National Honor Society students braved the rain and cold to volunteer at the Bellevue Urban Garden. They were guided by one of the founders, Maybin, who shared his story of immigrating from Zambia, his experience with food insecurity, and his passion for community-building. The students then worked on a variety of tasks to support the garden’s functions, including harvesting seeds, planting, and weeding.

This project was NHS’s chapter-wide community event, coordinated by their executive committee. It was a challenging day, but the students persevered and made a positive impact in providing food resources for the Bellevue community. Special thanks to Cindy L., Timothy W., and especially David X. for bringing this project to life!
