On the court, the stage, and at the podium, our BASIS Independent Bellevue Mountaineers participate in a variety of clubs and athletics. Our students work hard and play hard, and our auxiliary department is continuing to build an exciting extracurricular offering for students to dive into their interests and passions while having fun!
For the current school year, we are offering over 30 extracurriculars including club, athletic, and enrichment programs. We have a variety of offerings that span across Primary and Middle school grades. As our school grows, so will the list of programs we provide.
Each year, we host an extracurricular fair for students to preview our after-school program. It is a fun-filled event as students talk with club leaders and coaches to learn more about offerings.
Below, we invite you to step into a sampling of our club and athletic offerings.
Co-Ed Volleyball
Our Mountaineer team is preparing to compete amongst other middle schools next year! Our student-athletes learn a variety of drills and improve upon ball handling skills in riveting team formation practices and scrimmages.
Co-Ed Basketball
In this exciting team sport, our Mountaineer athletes learn how to be multiskilled players in all aspects of the game including ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding and more. Through the sport they will also continue building beneficial life–long skills such as leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork.
Creative Coding
Mountaineer Coders receive a fun introduction to the most popular programming language, JavaScript, in this fascinating club! They participate in advance level exercises such as self-portraits, drawing applications, animated art, abstract art, and games which introduce the fundamentals of programming. Coders have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of math topics while learning about variables, expressions, functions, logic, control flow, and loops throughout the course of this club.
Drumline
Our Mountaineer drumline musicians promote and build school spirit at our campus! Drummers learn the basics of how a drumline operates including tempo and rhythm, lead ensemble warmups, and research and practice selected music to play at performances. They rally us together during special occasions such as our Inaugural Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Open Houses, and assemblies.
Science Bowl
Students learn about various fields of science including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, energy and more! Through this club our Mountaineers gain a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and how they apply to real-world situations. This past year our team competed in various levels of competitions and ultimately were crowned victors of the 33rd Annual National Science Bowl Competition. Read more about this achievement in our blog!
Speech and Debate
Mountaineers learn a variety of styles of speech including PowerPoint, persuasive, informative, current issues, impromptu, and interpretation of plays, poetry, and prose. They engage in practice debates of advanced arguments in addition to gaining a better understanding of how debates are judged. Students receive extensive feedback to enhance their trade and set them up for success at competitions.
World Travel Club
World Travel Club offers an opportunity to travel the world and learn from guides and scholars from that area! Travelers in Grades 6 and 7 this year are taking an international trip to England, France, and Italy to see and experience cultures that shaped our world today. Opportunities for students to travel to the places where the events and moments they learned about in the classroom open their eyes to new perspectives that can only be achieved when the students are there themselves.
