Week 8 (4/30-5/6): Discharges And Updates

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my senior project blog! For this week’s post I will be providing an update about the patients that I am working with.

Patient 5

This patient is being discharged this week, and talked about his overall experience in the program. He mentioned that he has been to quite a few programs prior to this one both within the VA system and out, and he has been in the FOR program twice. Compared to the prior programs he has been in, he believes that he took his recovery a lot more seriously. He mentioned that he had been abstinent for a while before coming into the program which he believes gave him more clarity while he was going through the program. His plans are to continue in an outpatient program and also hopes to become a mentor for other veterans who are struggling with addiction.

Patient 6

This patient talked about how she is feeling irritated with herself for needing to come back to rehab; however, at the same time is grateful for being here and being sober. She also feels a little down as she feels like she is not learning, but she recognizes that she needs more time and patience. She wants to get reconnected with NA while she is in the program so she can form a support once she leaves and she also wants to work on looking at her relapse more positively, as a way to learn.
