Week 1: Introduction
March 9, 2023
Welcome to the first week of my blog posts! While it might be the first week I am posting, it is certainly not my first week working on this project. Before I get into that though, let me start from the beginning. In this project, I will be working with Happy Hollow’s three red ruffed lemurs.
Ally (below) and Razoky (above)
Meva
Ally and Razoky are a mated pair and live together. Meva is Razoky’s mother and lives in a neighboring exhibit. I’m sure that everyone can agree that this is an ideal arrangement for one’s mother-in-law. Currently, their exhibits have a lot of unused space, especially high up. Red ruffed lemurs spend almost all their time in the trees to avoid predators, but their current space does not give them the opportunity to avoid the ground. Ally and Razoky’s Exhibit

Over the past few months, I have been recording their behavior to determine where and how they spend their time. This has given me a good idea of their current habits and what kinds of furniture they prefer. Based on what I have seen, I have made recommendations regarding how the exhibits should be changed. By the end of March, all the new furniture should be up, and I will begin observations to see how their activity has changed.
