Week 7: Oh No… I Got Sick
April 23, 2023
Welcome back to my blog! This week has been pretty slow due to me getting food poisoning for most of it, so that has unfortunately set me back quite a bit. As a result, I will try to work even more in the following weeks in order to make up for what I wasn’t able to do this week. However, I must keep the weekly blogs going so I will go over the amount of work that I managed to get done this week while dealing with food poisoning. Let’s go!
Adding Lyrics
The most important part of any song is definitely the lyrics. They are the heart and soul of the song so we had to add all of the lyrics into the different parts of the song and made sure that everything synced up. Here is how we added the lyrics into the music sheets. Below is an image of an example of what it is supposed to look like.
The lyrics here are under the notes so signify what exactly should be said and when. Additionally, the chords above show what specific chords are meant to be played. This is meant to coincide with the vocals, so it makes the whole song more harmonious in that regard.
Adding Chords
Another major part of these lead sheet notations are the chords that we need to put into the music sheets in order for them to actually turn out properly. As mentioned above, we just decided to put the chords in the software and go with the proper way of creating pop music. We haven’t finished adding the chords yet for all of the parts of the songs, so we are currently in the process of adding these bits until our piece is actually complete.
Why This Is Weird
Creating music the way we did is a little bit unconventional. We decided to combine how classical music is written alongside the lead sheet design so it has a new avant-garde style of composition. Most modern pop music is just typically written in lead sheet with the notes, chords, and lyrics all together, but for us, we added the other instruments in there as well to really give it that unique and artistic flair in our composition (even if it isn’t “conventional” to do so).
Anyways, this concludes my blog post for the week. Sorry if there isn’t as much content this week, but again, I have been sick for a while so it hasn’t been easy. However, I still wanted to let everyone know what I have been up to regarding my project!
Stay tuned next week for recordings! See you then.
