Happy 8:20AM everyone!
As mentioned in my intro post, my project is all about exploring comedy, so I have compiled a completely non-exhaustive list of satirical works I have enjoyed. All of the following works made me laugh (Excluding “A Modest Proposal”. Slaughtering/canning children is something, I am proud to say, I do not find funny) and had solid critiques of society within them.
I have provided links where I can, but for some of these you may have to finally surrender yourself to the relentless deluge of NordVPN ads and sign up for a free trial.
The List
-
- The Day Today
- Mocks sensationalist/incompetent media corps. Lots of amusing cliches get poked fun at :)!
- The Day Today
- Yes Minister “The Whiskey Priest”
-
-
- Mocks politicians and self-centred bureaucracy. My poor guy Minister Hacker gets more and more broken down each episode.
-
- A Modest Proposal- Jonathan Swift
-
-
- Points out the complete lack of empathy of the rich in Ireland/Britain. The first half is so serious you almost believe Swift’s words
-
-
-
- Jokes about cultural conceptions about age and maturity.
-
- How to Grift the Super Rich pt.1- Jonny and the Baptists
-
-
- Mocks elitist, consumer culture and is wonderfully absurd.
-
- Cultural Observations: People That Read Books in Public– Meditations from the Anxious Mind
-
- Gently mocks people who commit to hobbies for attention→ those that take the video seriously.
