Week 4: Planning it all out
March 22, 2024
This week focused mainly on how we are going to analyze the data from our experiment. We created an outline of the different analyses we are going to perform on the experimental study data: behavioral (binary cheat/not cheat and average points cheated), attitude (using survey responses), and validation methods. Through this brainstorming process with my external advisor, I learned much of the process within the psychology field. My advisor explained to me throughout the process which analyses should be performed and which should not as they would be picked apart by reviewers and would be impossible to execute.
We also created a brief survey and wrote a pre-registration for that survey to fill in a crack we discovered in our study after meeting and discussing with the professor who leads our lab. Through that meeting I learned of the process of creating a paper and how airtight everything within the paper has to be.
I also met with an intern to fill in some blanks from the observation notes from our experimental study and checked in with our entire intern team on their progress with the prompted conversations segment of the study.
We also started our coding for our Year 2 Observational data and are planning to analyze the data for valence (positive, negative, mixed, ambiguous attitudes toward cheating), peer and teacher talk and action, and presence of a cheating event.
Overall this week involved a lot of brainstorming and planning different moving parts out.
See you all next week! Valete!!
