Mandarin

Early Learning, Primary Program

Ms. Wen was born and raised in Changsha, China. In 2018, Ms. Wen graduated from the New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development with a master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and TFL (Teaching Mandarin as a Foreign Language). In addition to her rigorous academic training in teaching at NYU, she also visited and studied in the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom, where she developed a vision to teach in a multicultural environment. Afterward, she taught Mandarin at different levels for five years. Now, as a Mandarin Subject Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent Manhattan, Ms. Wen’s professional goal is to prepare students to be independent learners with competent Mandarin language skills. She focuses on elementary and primary-age education, guiding students to explore the world via interdisciplinary activities in Mandarin. She encourages children to apply content knowledge to real life and become independent thinkers. Ms. Wen also enjoys bringing her hobbies to the classroom, motivating students to learn Mandarin by hosting Chinese calligraphy workshops and incorporating Chinese traditional instruments into her class. Outside of her classroom, Ms. Wen’s passions encompass traveling, camping, skateboarding, and music. She also enjoys spending time with her “daughter,” a cute cat named Pika.‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌
